Seasons of Change Exhibition + Art Award 2024

Seasons of Change is a portraiture project that captures the stories, wisdom, and humour of the seniors of the Wheatbelt.
This project started with a series of workshops with Andy Quilty, Desiree Crossing and Martine Perret, who are all award-winning artists from across WA, with over 170 people throughout the Central Wheatbelt learning drawing, painting and photography skills.

Seasons of Change culminates in an exhibition at the Merredin Railway Museum in April 2024, showcasing portraits and stories of our esteemed community members.

This exhibition will also act as a local art prize, allowing all persons who submit an entry to be eligible for a cash prize.

About Seasons of Change

Part art exhibition, part living library, part museum exhibit: this ambitious work intends to have an exhibition created about people of the Wheatbelt created and designed by people of the Wheatbelt, with paintings, drawings, photographs, and objects representing the stories you hear placed on display at the Merredin Railway Museum for a month-long immersive exhibit—

A Community collaborative exhibition sharing stories of the Wheatbelt made by locals.

The project started in 2022 with 8 video portraits of subjects from Merredin. We want to increase this to 30 by the end of 2024. This year the focus is on Seniors’ stories, celebrating their wisdom, humour, and resilience, and shedding light on living and working in the Wheatbelt.

We are working with award-winning organisation Art on The Move and prize-winning Artists from across WA to deliver training to locals to help us create this in community, by the community, for the community, with workshops starting in September 2023 and running until April 2024.

The exhibition will be hosted in 2024 at Merredin Railway Museum in the Old Refreshment Rooms, which has previously hosted the Fine Arts Society. It will feature a mixture of Photography, Video, Painting, and Drawing, with each piece capturing the unique story, wisdom, humour, and resilience of a resident of the Wheatbelt.
